Tell us about your past in terms of health and fitness prior to joining Roar Fitness and training with Mike?
Exercise was not on the agenda at all during the 3-4 years preceding joining Roar and training with Mike. I was living and working overseas in Europe, the wife and I were busy with our 2 little boys and there was just no motivation (or time) to think about my fitness. However after moving to settle here in Perth just over a year ago, it became quite clear that with my expanding waistline, low energy and motivation levels and generally feeling sluggish and embarrassed about how I looked, something needed to be done.

What brought you into Roar Fitness and what was your initial experience like of the club?
For me it was the fact that Roar is open 24 hours, it is close to where I live but more importantly Roar was not a franchise and it was something new and exciting. Having a walk-through of the gym with the owners, I immediately felt their buzz, energy and excitement for their new venture and for me it just felt right. They were embarking on a new venture and I was embarking on getting healthy and lean.

Elaborate on your fitness transformation so far, what are your achievements and how did you get there?
It was tough for the first few weeks as I literally had to transform and make changes to my life in order to see the results that I was longing for. But like anything after you’ve done it for a while, eating right and exercising has now become my norm and it has been such a good outlet for me. My world revolves around my work and my kids and I’m quite chuffed that I’ve been able to make time to work on my health and fitness without comprising either. My wife has been very supportive as the nights that we used to watch TV on the couch after the kids had gone to sleep have now been replaced with me leaving to go to the gym for a few hours. So it’s required a lot of organisation and discipline to make these life changes but thus far that hard graft has resulted in a weight loss of 16 kg and roughly 10% body fat.

How has working with Mike as a PT helped you to get to where you are now?
Mike had my attention from the very first time I met him. I was taken aback as to how much knowledge Mike has in all aspects of what it was that I was trying to achieve. He is so passionate about the work that he does with/for his clients that it rubs off on you. What I mean is that it’s not an effort or a burden to think about being trained by Mike; it’s quite the opposite. You look forward to training, you look forward to learning about your program and what is working and what not working and you just look forward in receiving Mike’s guidance on all aspects of your health and fitness. All in all, a very professional and knowledgeable person to work with.

What would you say to someone looking at joining Roar Fitness?
Quite simply, if you want to improve your health and fitness surrounded by motivated professionals and by using some of the best equipment on the market, then definitely sign up at Roar. As I mentioned earlier, one of the best things about Roar is that it’s not a franchise and this is evidenced by the close knit vibe that it has and community spirit which you become apart of when you’re a member.

What would you say to someone considering Mike to help reach their fitness goals?
Mike will definitely get you where you want to be. All you need to bring to the table is discipline, focus and attention to detail. In other words, do everything he says and together you will improve your health and fitness drastically.

What are your fitness goals from here?
My goal is to quite simply maintain my health and fitness indefinitely. I am very happy with the level I have reached now and feel as though it has had a positive impact on other areas of my life, i.e. more focus and motivation at work, more stamina when playing with the kids, etc. If I can continue to eat well and exercise 4-5 times per week, then I think my overweight and unhealthy days will be a thing of the past.
